First of All, HAPPY SUMMER MY PEOPLE!
I spent my summer solstice celebrating at Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York. It was the most unique experience I have ever had. The summer solstice is a very special time and a time of full bloom, which is exactly how I felt this year at this place.
Just a day before this I watched Aaron Doughty’s YouTube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8Nag8_Pbas explaining that everyone is a reflection of yourself, which I already believed in but he made the concept clearer. And as I type this I understand the name of the chapel, and myself even more.
Everyone won’t feel this way but for me, seeing this experience as a reflection (mirror) of myself helps me to realize how much love, beauty, and acceptance that I hold and can hold. It was a place I could only dream of, a beautiful hippie wonderland.
But if I had to sum this place up in one word it would be mesmerizing.
I had no idea what this was or what to expect but recently I have been becoming more into my true soul- which is definitely a straight hippie soul, confirmed by this event. My friend Dave invited me and we drove the 2 1/2 hours to New York for the special occasion. He has been a few times but this was my first (and not last) time.
Trying to explain this place does it no justice compared to experiencing it. When we first get there we have lots of time to explore and hang out before the ceremonies begin. The area is a very beautiful mountainous terrain with beautiful trees, bushes, fresh air, cool weather and sunshine. The land is covered with open fields for relaxing, paths for nature walking, and art for appreciating.
It has sacred temples built, murals, statues built by recycled items, bon fire area, lounge area and more.
We spent time relaxing, meeting people and playing with our flow art. I’ve never been to a place where I instantly could relate to everyone, everyone was happy doing these silly, weird, beautiful things that on a normal day with “normal” people would be considered out of this world. Which I guess it was… in an AWESOME way.
Inside the chapel was just as amazing, if not more so then outside. Because it is considered a temple, no shoes allowed. The place was rather small, but the perfect size to make the experience beautifully intimate and extra special. It felt and looked like a home.
It was covered in Art by Alex Grey and his wife Allyson, easy to see they are quite the power couple. #goals They created this entire place for the scared love and community. They presented the opening ceremony which, we couldn’t stay for the whole time, we lost the car keys and had to find them :p But here are a couple examples of my favorite pieces of the art around the temple.
The rest of time was basically a day full of beautiful play time, the exact way I love it. It felt so good to find people to spend their time exactly the way I do it. It had everything I could ever want. Everyone was so nice here so it was beyond easy to make friends.
Everything here felt so free and you could come and go exactly as you please. It felt like a truly safe place. The people were there for you, and you knew it. Everyone was just enjoying themselves and you could see happy faces everywhere.
During the night, outside there was a HUGE bonfire with lots of people circled around, fire flow art performances, body painting, brainwave controlled art pieces, and a projection dome.
The projection dome had people performing the most relaxing music while everyone else is in the biggest cuddle puddle I have ever seen, looking up and adoring and getting lost in the shapes.
Inside the temple, there was a dance room with some DJ’s that place great flow music that let everyone’s body’s move exactly as felt right. Flow, roll, twist, hop, bounce, just everything out of love & happiness. Everyone gave each other space to really move. Moving through the temple there were plenty of rooms filled with art. There was another dance area that was a slower gentler pace. Another room was filled with live painters, making amazing art work and giving the opportunity to speak to them as they painted. It was really cool how all the artists never felt separate from us or the event. Even the main artist Alex Grey and his wife Allyson were around chatting, there was an undeniable togetherness in the air. Even waiting to go to the bathroom wasn’t so bad as you could easily get sucked into and amazing conversation or an amazing piece of art, love was everywhere you looked.
Everything was just so flowy and natural.
I’m so happy to know such a beautiful place exists and want to thank from the bottom of my heart all the people involved, from the artists, the helpers, to the attendees, you made this night so special to me. Happy summer all <3
I feel like this festival helped unlock a newer level of my self. Which was exactly what the chapel had in mind “The mission of CoSM, Chapel of Sacred Mirrors is to build an enduring sanctuary of visionary art to inspire and evolve the creative spirit.” Via https://www.cosm.org/about/ you can also find his art on this website.
I love my mystic, whimsical, hippie life. Grateful to reach a new level of my journey, thanks again.
