This was Caren’s first time hosting this workshop and bringing to life and practice the creative power in each individual involved and I couldn’t be more excited that I was a part of it!
I have been interested in body painting since the beginning of the summer #newbie, but I didn’t realize how in depth and meaningful body painting can truly be.
As soon as I knew the workshop existed, I also knew I would be there! I had not a clue what to expect or how to prepare. Thankfully Caren was very communicative and emailed us with suggestions beforehand.
Caren carries such a welcoming, happy energy to her being. I absolutely loved it. She started the workshop with a slide show to give us some background and history on the significance of body painting.
It’s been around… basically as long as humans have and can mean different things within different cultures. She explained all of this, in her sweet, calm voice and I began to realize how not so strange – but beautiful, profound and meaningful it can be to paint your body.
After laying out the foundation and having a small break the real fun was about to begin.
We moved to the room where we would be painting. The room was set up beautifully, a truly safe, scared, calming space. Throughout the room Caren’s artwork was hung, there was an area for the photoshoot’s that Meghan Spiro would be doing, and of course our work station, among other decorations.
We each had a workspace and was provided a mirror and a piece of paper. The adorning practice started with an intention setting meditation. The paper was for any words that may have popped up after because it is very powerful to write it down.
It’s also very powerful to share, and we were given that opportunity too. I didn’t want to at first but, after listening to everyone open up, the connection between this group of ladies began to grow. #sacredmirrors
This wasn’t only a fun experience but a healing one.
After that we simply just started to go at it with painting and in between we had a peaceful, delicious, & healthy lunch break (buffet style) provided.
During our time painting, which was about 4-6 hours.
Caren was there for any questions but let us all be… together. This allowed for our true creativity and individuality come to play. We had another videographer TJ capturing the entire experience.
Men are welcome but this class was filled with ladies and it felt like the ultimate girl time!
Everyone was really kind and shared supplies, ideas and help!
Some of us came with visions, and some of us just threw something together. (me…always 😅)
This was a very meaningful experience for me because I have never been able to share my creativity in this way with anyone before, let alone 12 other creative geniuses. It was an experience like no other, I really want to thank Caren for that, and bringing us all together.
The experience was more then just painting our bodies, it was an extension and expression of ourselves. Because of the kind of environment created it left room for authenticity, individuality, and vulnerability.
There were moments where we all chatted and giggled, peaceful moments of silence, and moments of deeper conversations. It was so much fun in a simple way. I couldn’t stop announcing how much fun I was having. It was a space I never had before.
One by one we all started to finish our works of arts, the photo shoots started happening! Meghan Spiro is an amazing photographer. It was so cool to have professional pictures done and have so much fun doing it, during this part we all really started to hangout walk around and admire each other’s art! We had a lot of fun!
The whole workshop cost me $90 after taxes. Would have been cheaper if I signed up earlier! When I was signing up, I thought it was quite expensive especially since bringing our own tools was recommended. But after having the experience I understand the cost.
We are in a beautiful space with very talented artists, being educated, making connections, being fed healthy food, expanding ourselves and our minds, and getting professional portraits and video documentation… It’s well worth cost.
All you need is some paint and brushes to get started yourself!
